What is vaginal rejuvenation?

Vaginal rejuvenation is a medical term used to describe therapies for improving muscle tone and function of the vaginal tissues. As women age, hormone production naturally decreases, leading to vaginal dryness and sexual discomfort. Pregnancy and childbirth can also impact the muscles and tissues of the vagina, causing stretching and weakness that may lead to incontinence.

What is Votiva?

Votiva is a system that uses radiofrequency to gently warm body tissues – including skin, muscle, and internal vaginal tissues – to improve blood circulation, relieve pain, and relax muscles. The Votiva system utilizes different radio frequencies, depending on the treatment area and your symptoms, to produce reliable results in about 30-60 minutes.

As your vaginal tissue is heated, the cells inside your body reconfigure to produce more collagen and blood flow. In turn, this increases strength, flexibility, and moisture in the vaginal tissues. With a separate handheld wand, the Votiva can also improve the appearance of stretch marks, scars, and facial wrinkles.

What can I expect during a Votiva treatment?

During your Votiva treatment, you’ll undress to allow access to the treatment area. Dr. Chen ensures you are draped with a towel or gown for modesty before beginning your procedure. He then prepares the treatment area by gently cleaning your skin or vaginal tissues.

Dr. Chen turns on the Votiva machine and applies a slippery gel to the handheld wand, if it’s being used internally. He waves the handheld wand over your skin or carefully slides it inside your vagina. While the wand is in use, you’ll feel a comfortable warming sensation.

Depending on the size of the treatment area, your visit may last 30-60 minutes. Afterward, Dr. Chen removes the wand from your skin or vaginal area and provides you with a sanitary cloth to clean your skin. You can get dressed as soon as you’re ready and return to your normal activities immediately.

What can I expect after vaginal rejuvenation?

After your vaginal rejuvenation session, you’ll likely notice an improvement in the moisture and feel of your vaginal area. In some cases, Dr. Chen recommends three or four sessions over a six-month period to see the most benefit.
